Gaming: Is Spider-Man 2 Worth The Price Tag?

Insomniac's Spider-Man 2

Two games define superhero games. Rocksteady’s Arkham franchise and Insomniac’s Spider-man. While Rocksteady has pushed to all platforms, Sony has kept Spider-man under lock and key as a PlayStation exclusive with the latest being a next-gen PS5 exclusive. Will PS fans without the. PS 5 feel left out or can they wait for their eventual upgrade?

From Playstation.com:

Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise for PS5.

Swing, jump and utilize the new Web Wings to travel across Marvel’s New York, quickly switching between Peter Parker and Miles Morales to experience different stories and epic new powers, as the iconic villain Venom threatens to destroy their lives, their city and the ones they love.

The question of whether it will be good or not will come down to the individual user. The real question that needs to be asked is, will it be different enough to keep long-time fans content? Sure the story might be different but now they’re combining two character runs into one. Miles Morales had his own game as a sequel to the Peter Parker-led original Spider-man offering.

More Gaming: Dual Sense Edge? Or Xbox Elite?

Fans have never been asked to choose between the two but more than likely each one has picked their favorite so can they co-exist? Then you have to add in Venom to the story as well. While it’s still too early in the game’s release, unless you’re a die-hard who finished it this weekend, there’s enough to go on to have hope for the game for those who haven’t finished or even started yet.

Strip away the story aspect and is the game good enough to draw people in on gameplay alone? One of the newest features in Spider-Man 2 is the ability to glide with the Spidey suit.  This alone can make or break the game for fans. In the beginning, it is a very frustrating mechanic to learn. Some FPS games have had these style suits making it an easy transition. However, where the disconnect early on will be is the transition from web-slinging to gliding and back.

Luckily for gamers, it’ll be a quick learning curve. Spend enough time just swinging around and it’ll be a quick pick up and all frustration will be lost.

So back to the game itself. This one is simple. If you like the previous games, you’ll love this one. They’ve done enough to take strengths from the previous Spider-Man games and put them in Spider-Man 2 but then built upon them. The hardest part of any franchise is taking things gamers love and making it feel new and fresh, which Insomniac has done. You might not need to rush out and get a PS5 just to play it, but once you do, you won’t be disappointed.
