Gaming: DualSense Edge Or Xbox Elite Controller, Who Wins?

PlayStation 5 gaming controller

When it comes to gaming, gamers are always looking for an advantage. Bigger televisions, faster internet speeds, and even the premium controllers they use for the little extra responsiveness help the player stay competitive. Both Playstation (DualSense Edge) and Xbox (Elite) have released a higher-end controller. If you’re lucky enough to own both consoles, which should you go with first?

DualSense Edge:

Sony finally made the leap with the PS 5 that gamers on Xbox have enjoyed for a while now with their DualSense Edge controller. It has the same customizable controls as the Elite, a different color combination on the trackpad, and a slightly lighter feel than the Xbox competitor. Where it shines is the back of the controller with the customizable paddle controls. Not only does PlayStation include the same style of paddle controls for the backside buttons, they also have dime-sized half-moon-like ones as well you can change out for a more natural feel while holding the controller.

But the most impressive part of the controller is one that comes on the standard model and the DualSense Edge as well. Gaming on a PS 5 doesn’t require additional hardware to enjoy group chats. There’s a mic built right into the controller itself. Could it be louder and better audio? Absolutely. But if you want to enjoy talking with your friends but don’t always remember to charge your headset, then this could be a difference maker.

Xbox Elite:

Unfortunately for PlayStation fans, that’s about the leg up they have on the competition. The Xbox Elite controller, so far, blows Sony right out of the water. Yes, they’re losing the battle of built-in speakers and mic, but the battery life is longer, the magnetic button attachments, the customizable D-pad, and the ability to easily remove and clean most of the buttons make gaming on the Xbox all the easier. The controller might be a little heftier but it doesn’t feel cheap either. Xbox hasn’t found the need for a trackpad nor do they need it. The four-button combo on the back of the controller is intuitive. Even the textured grip around the controller makes it feel more comfortable in your hand. PlayStation was late to the party here so Xbox has the advantage.

If you’re looking for value for your dollar, go with the Xbox Elite. The series two is out and as it stands there are two different price points floating around. There are some listed as low as $149 to $179. The DualSense Edge currently is at $199.
