The New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins are sort of at the same point in the early days of the season. Pittsburgh is 4-2-0 and the Islanders are 3-3-0. However, the Penguins are quite banged up right now. There have been many sources reporting that Pittsburgh has been looking into the forward for depth help. It’s worth noting that Josh Ho-Song has not reported to the AHL after the New York Islanders waived him. Upon the news of him being waived, Song’s agent asked the Islanders for a trade of his client. General Manager Lou Lamorioello told Josh Ho-Song to hold tight as they look for a suitor.

It seems that the Penguins are that team interested in him. Despite winning the last two games, the Penguins are in desperate help of forward. It’s worth noting that several of their top forwards are out at the moment and its made the Penguins look like a shell of themselves. It’s worth noting that Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust are on the LTIR, the Penguins are in some major help in the their top-six. Song would be a great addition because it’s a low risk for the Penguins.  Ho-Song is on a one year deal of $874k. Currently he is an Restricted Free Agent.

If this happens to come to limelight, the Penguins would have found themselves an affordable option who is able to help on the front two lines. Josh Ho-Song has played 53 games in the NHL. In that stretch, he has 24 points, which is seven goals and 17 assists. Most Islander fans remember when Ho-Song was one of the driving forces behind the Islanders making the playoffs during the 2016-2017 season. Another thing to look at is Ho-Song’s age. He is only 23 years old. We have seen players do much better when they leave New York.
