Philadelphia Flyers: Is Travis Konecny The New Face?

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers took their first loss of the season last night against the Vancouver Canucks. In the process, Travis Konecny further established himself as the talk of the Flyers’ great start. Konecny is just 22 years old but he’s playing the season as if he’s a seasoned veteran. In the Flyers’ first three games this season, Konecny is leading the team in points with 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists).

According to Broad Street Buzz, there were questions if he would come into the season hot after a 49-point season in 2018.

Coming off of a career-high 49 point season for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2018-19, Travis Konecny entered the 2019-20 regular season with some lofty expectations from the fanbase, mostly due to a six-year, 33 million dollar contract he signed at the beginning of Training Camp.

That new deal could turn out to be a steal for the Philadelphia Flyers down the line. With a team built for a playoff push, Konecny has a chance to usher in the new era in Flyers’ hockey. This is still a sport where slums will happen, however, he’s backed by players such as Jakub Voracek, Claude Giroux, and Matt Niskanen. If history serves the franchise correctly, then this is the year the team returns to the playoffs.

The Flyers have gone one year in and one yeat out for the past six seasons. A return this year coupled with a great year for Travis Konecny, could mean a huge boost for the Philadelphia Flyers moving forward in terms of offseason moves. As Benjamin Gabrych stated when discussing the hot start:

Konecny won’t be able to keep this kind of pace through the whole year, but it’s still one helluva start for the young forward. As long as he can plateau at a respectable level, fans should prepare themselves for some more tremendous performances from the Ontario native as 2019-20 rolls along.

What it boils down to is how focused is Konecny? If he can keep a steady pace, he has a chance to make not only a name for himself but the organization in general for the 2019-20 NHL season.
