Miami Dolphins: Grading Their Offseason On Offense So Far.

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill

So far, so good when it comes to the Miami Dolphins offseason. It seems like every need the team had was addressed between free agency and the NFL Draft. The Dolphins had limited picks this year after some crafty moves, so just how well did they do this offseason? Here are some of the highlights of their offseason:

Offensive Upgrades

There were multiple positions that needed addressing on the offensive side of the football for the Miami Dolphins. They needed to address their run game, they needed to upgrade their WR with consistent players, and they needed to address the offensive line to better protect QB Tua Tagovailoa. In the run game, they acquired Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert. Their run game was spotty at best last season and the two will instantly resolve some woes. They’re almost guaranteed to take over the majority of the run plays but they could push holdovers Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed to up their game to be more consistent.

WR is where the Dolphins made the biggest stride. The move for Tyreek Hill made waves around the NFL and was soon duplicated a few different times on draft day. Hill is one of the top receivers in the league and will take pressure off last year’s breakout rookie Jaylen Waddle. Cedric Wilson was a wise move despite his limited success so far. He has tremendous upside and given the other weapons could be forced to more one-on-one matchups. Where the Dolphins can accelerate their offense is versatility.

With the team drafting Erik Ezukanma and players like Hill and Waddle, Miami has not only a speedy group but players who can line up anywhere on the field and have success. It will be a very hungry group with guys like Lynn Bowden Jr. and Preston Williams still on the back end of that roster. Guys will have to show up ready to earn their spot and earn their touches.

Offensive line still has some question marks. The team did some post-draft signing but there was little addressed from last year’s sketchy line play. The team did sign Terron Armstead but one player isn’t really snapping your fingers and fixing their line. Right now there are plenty of question marks and ifs to rely on. They’ve invested plenty in these players. If they can turn it around, then fine but at this point, it seems like they’re rolling the dice and not ready to admit defeat.

The Miami Dolphins have plenty to look forward to in 2022. The offense will look almost unrecognizable with all the new pieces on the field on game day but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Miami needed a shakeup as their offense often looked stuck in neutral in 2021. Will speed be enough to keep up with the rest of the high-powered teams?
