Marvel: Was Falcon and the Winter Soldier Too Predictable?

Marvel's Falcon and the Winter Soldier

With Marvel and the MCU, we’re pretty accustomed to wanting more. However so far with their current run of Disney+ shows, we’re left wanting more in a bad way. WandaVision was all over the map despite wrapping up nicely in the end. Then Falcon and the Winter Soldier walked a straight path without veering even a little. With the season finale, there was no real defining moment.

As always if you’re not caught up, spoilers below!

Anthony Mackie Should’ve Had A Bigger Role Coming In:

One of the biggest gripes with Falcon and the Winter Soldier was throwing Mackie right to the forefront with this show. As much as he should be the next Captain America, they should have springboarded his character along the way. They kept his story in the background and didn’t really give him a role. Now he’s the main guy and we haven’t seen the growth of his character to take that role. We also didn’t get to see Mackie grow as an actor into the character.

Sharon Carter Reveal:

One of the worst kept secrets was the Power Broker. Marvel’s new villain never really seemed like it was a big reveal. The entire step of the way it felt like they were building up her mystery but never once tipped their hand in another direction to throw you off the scent. Even from the initial character drop, it was always in the back of your head.

John Walker Twist:

Did anyone not think that the pressure of being Captain America wasn’t going to lead John Walker down a dark path? Even if you never picked up a Marvel comic in your life and knew nothing of his backstory, you could tell he was going to be the bad guy. His whole persona was the exact opposite of Steve Rodgers. Again, right from day one, it was clear where they were going.

Bucky’s Lack of Purpose

For what it’s worth, the majority of this show didn’t need Bucky Barnes. Yeah, it gave it the nice buddy cop feel but it felt like he was nothing but background noise. He had his role along the way but not enough of one to be thrust into the title of the show as if half the story was going to be his. Even if you consider his loyalty to Steve, he should’ve trusted his opinion enough to put a little faith in Sam and help guild him.

Marvel isn’t doing terrible with the MCU shows but they’re lacking the substance we’ve loved from the movies. While they’re not completely terrible, they’re not exactly wowing either.
