Killing It: An Underrated Hidden Gem From Peacock

Killing It on Peacock

As of late, the streaming offerings are getting fewer and far between. Not only are we regurgitating the same bit of nostalgia on and off, we’re also reproducing similar shows with a different cast in another city. Even the ever-popular coming-of-age shows set in a different decade follow the same formula. So what the hell, when it comes to shows like Killing It, we decided to give this one a try.

In this rags-to-riches sitcom about class and capitalism, Craig Foster is a bank security guard living in Miami and struggling to make ends meet. He and his ex-wife, Camille, uneasily co-parent their pre-teen daughter, Vanessa. Craig has grand plans to become an entrepreneur, but no way of getting his ideas off the ground. But a chance encounter with Jillian, a down-on-her-luck driver for a ride-hailing service, introduces him to the wild world of state-sponsored python hunting, he decides to go all in to make his American dream come true.

Okay, it’s a given this might be the rags to riches sort of show we’re starting to see more of these days, but we’re not tired of them yet. Killing It is very close in concept to Acapulco on Apple TV+ where a down-on-his-luck protagonist keeps pushing and grinding until he can eventually overcome his own hurdles and makes it in the world. Luckily, this one is a bit different.

More Entertainment: Twisted Metal – A Welcomed Streaming Surprise

Killing It has a real charm to it as Craig Robinson finds his role as the lame-to-fame father who risks everything to find a better life for himself and his family. The core concept of the show has been done, but the twist is what makes the show funnier than expected. It’s not every day you watch a show where the lead character has to hunt and exterminate snakes in Florida.

It might be an old movie trope with a contest that the protagonist has to win to pay for his means of getting by, but a good cast and reliability make Killing It a sleeper show. It has the social media stars, the ridiculousness only seen in Florida, wit, and likability. Peacock did just release season 2 for a day 1/binge-style viewing so you won’t have to wait a full week for each episode. If you’re looking for a lighthearted comedy that doesn’t disappoint, Killing It should be your next binge show.
