How Much Will The Miami Dolphins Miss De’Von Achane

Miami Dolphins Rookie RB De'Von Achane

The Miami Dolphins placed rookie RB De’Von Achane on IR. Achane has been a spark for the Dolphins but there is no shortage of weapons on the field. In a year where Miami was rumored to have interest in veterans like Josh Jacobs and Jonathan Taylor, Achane was providing Miami with a safety net without them. Even with the talent the Dolphins have, will they be feeling the sting of not having the most productive running back?

Miami has no shortage of playmakers even if it’s just in the backfield. There’s still Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr is rumored to be ready to come back. However, even though the duo is splitting carries, Mostert is averaging just over 5 yards per carry. Achane on the other hand is doubling that at 12.1 yards per attempt. If we’re talking touchdowns, Mostert has 6 rushing and 1 receiving whereas Achane has 5 rushing and two receiving.

If you break down the tale of the tape, both running backs can get it done. Where Miami will miss Achane the most is the extra yards he fights for after contact. The Dolphins have plenty of speed on offense but the shorter gains equal more plays run. The more plays they run, the more likely the fatigue will set in. Fatigue can easily lead to more injuries. From a productivity standpoint, their offense will still get it done but there is still cause for concern.

In the four games Achane will be out, Miami will face some tough opponents. They may catch a break against a winless Carolina Panthers team but never count anyone out in the NFL. From then out, the Dolphins face the Eagles, the Patriots, and the Chiefs. That’s not exactly a downhill battle. The team also traded for wide receiver Chase Claypool who had some trouble in Chicago and is looking for a fresh start.

If the Miami Dolphins want to stay competitive this NFL season then someone needs to step up and fill the productivity that Achane brings. Whether it is Jeff Wilson Jr, Chase Claypool, or Cedrick Wilson Jr who seems to be slowly stepping up as of late. Opponents will key in on Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill, and Raheem Mostert so the more weapons the better. Who will step up in the rookie’s absence?
