Entertainment: Best of 2023 .. So Far

Best in entertainment GotG

The entertainment industry is flooded with content. Some good, some not so good, and some just downright awful. As summer winds to and end and we all look to retreat to our homes, some of you may be looking for new content to consume. If you haven’t seen these movies and shows or read this book. Here’s the best new content I’ve taken in in 2023 so far:

Movie:

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3

It’ll be hard for most people to put a superhero movie atop their best-watched list in 2023 but that’s exactly where I stand. Sure there have been great movies this year and even ones others might put above it, but this was the end of a fantastic trilogy. There was so much emotion and humor, great fight scenes, and each character’s story was exactly what you’d want out of the closing of their arcs.

Honorable Mention:

Barbie

The Barbie movie was a breath of fresh air in 2023. The entertainment industry has recycled so much lately that getting something close to original with humor and heart. It’s exactly what the box office needed pushing $1 billion so far. Although if you can’t take a joke, this movie is probably not for you.

Book:

GreenLights (Matthew McConaughey)

2o23 has been slow for reading. There haven’t been too many books that I’ve finished this year. However, Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey is one of the better books if not one of the best I’ve read. It’s thought-provoking, light-hearted, and fun. Green Lights lets you see a new side of the actor or re-familiarize yourself with one you already knew.

Show:

The Bear

One of the more underrated shows on Hulu that quickly became a fan favorite. The Bear is hilarious but also very intense. Anyone who has worked in a restaurant kitchen will feel the pain of this show while getting a good laugh as well. Some scenes were all too real but still hilarious nonetheless. It’s entertaining and each character is written so well.

Honorable Mention:

Ted Lasso

Nothing was harder than putting Ted Lasso in the honorable mention category but the show came to an end. Most of which was in a fashion that most of us didn’t want to see happen. Yet, that doesn’t mean the show was a letdown. The best part of the show was they left it open-ended so they can continue if they wanted to but if they left it the way it was you wouldn’t be disappointed. Even as the characters weren’t given the ending everyone imagined, it still pulled out all the stops and had the same energy and emotion.
