Disney World’s Newest Attraction Concept Is Far From Perfect

Disney

Walt Disney World pushes the envelope with their attractions. Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom is said to be the world’s greatest dark ride. Well, Disney might have dropped the ball with their newest announcement. What they are calling, Black Box might be the laziest attempt at a theme park ride ever.

Hollywood Studios needs all the attractions it can handle. Galaxy’s Edge will bring in hordes of guests. The current lineup of rides and shows won’t quite cut it. Even with the new Lightning McQueen show and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (opening in 2020), their needs to be a lot more. This is what Black Box will accomplish. However, it’s not going to be groundbreaking or revolutionary by any means.

We know very little about Black Box. What’s definite is that it’ll be a screen-based attraction that relies on projections and effects. This sounds a bit too much like a Universal Studios creation.

Many claim Fast And Furious: Supercharged (an attraction along the lines of Black Box) to be the worst ride in Orlando. Why would Disney aim to create something like this? Especially in a park that’s going to be packed to the gills.

Money is a simple answer to all of the Disney attractions. Walt Disney World has spent a lot of money on Galaxy’s Edge, the Tron coaster, and the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster. We’ve seen how budget conscious they can be with Toy Story Land. This Black Box concept is just another casualty of the Disney cost-saving technique.

There are some things we know about Black Box that do seem somewhat intriguing. The attraction will be interchangeable. Walt Disney World can change the theme, characters, and story of the ride with little hassle. One day you could be getting an Inside Out attraction, the next could be Lion King. At least this Black Box venture can make use of the screens, putting them to good use.

Black Box does seem like a bit of a cop-out for Disney. They just want to fill Hollywood Studios to capacity. This Black Box attraction won’t cost too much money, and Walt Disney World is all about cutting costs, Here’s another lazy attempt at a theme park ride. While it may seem smart on paper, this isn’t a good idea.
