Behold, The Dragon Coaster At Legoland California

Dragon Coaster

Chances are you’ll have ridden Dragon Coaster if you’ve been to any Legoland park. These are some of the best children’s coasters in the world. They are exceptionally themed and provide great fun for those who ride. The Legoland California version isn’t different from its clones at the other parks, although, it’s a top-notch kids coaster no matter where in the world you ride.

All Dragon Coasters take place in a beautifully constructed castle. Not on the level of Disney, this is still one hell of a set design. The coaster is loosely based on the Knights Kingdom Lego sets. Indeed, the exterior looks like a giant Lego castle. The medieval theme really works well.

With the exterior looking grand and beautiful, it’s fitting Dragon Coaster has a well designed interior as well. The park spared little expense when designing this attraction. The ride load station feels as if you’re inside actual castle walls. Kids will absolutely adore the look of Dragon Coaster.

Of course, Dragon Coaster isn’t just for kids.

While Legoland California (and other Legoland parks) itself is marketed as a kids park, a lot of the rides there are fun for everyone. I’d be lying if I said Dragon Coaster wasn’t one of the best times I have had on a coaster. It’s part dark ride, part roller coaster. A very unique concept that many parks don’t incorporate often.

You’re ushered through a few scenes before hitting the coaster track. You’ll encounter jesters, wizards, even a Dragon, all made to look like life-size lego characters . Ths standout scene is the Wizard’s lair. So much little detail was put there. The dragon at the end of the dark ride is the standout animatronic.

I was highly impressed by the dark ride portion. Imagine how a young child must feel when riding. You’re really immersed into the castle story. There’s not really a plot to follow. It’s just a castle that’s being invaded by a Dragon. Simple and effective.

The coaster itself is just your average kiddie coaster. It does have some speed to it, though. There are a few helixes and drops, but nothing too out of the ordinary. You’ll get the chance at an on-ride photo. Make sure to be on the lookout for that as well.

All six Legoland parks have a Dragon Coaster. While I’ve only done the California version, I’d imagine all are a good time. If you get a chance to visit any Legoland, make sure to give Dragon Coaster a go. Whether you’re a grown adult or child, this is the perfect coaster for everyone.
