Apple TV+: Swagger Deserves A Season 2

Apple TV+'s Swagger

When it comes to the original series, Apple TV +has been chugging right along. They might not have the largest selection, but they have plenty of original content that keeps fans coming back for more. One of the series that is under-appreciated so far is Swagger. While plenty of shows from Apple have already been announced for season 2, Swagger for some reason seems to be on the back burner. While there’s no official word yet, this show definitely deserves a season 2.

From Apple

From NBA star Kevin Durant, filmmaker Reggie Rock Bythewood, and the team behind Friday Night Lights. A basketball prodigy must navigate a maze of pressure if he’s going to overcome the odds against him and learn what it truly means to have swagger.

First and foremost, there are plenty of plot points that have gone unresolved. The relationship between Coach Ike and Jace is still a bit fractured. Jace looked up to Ike as a father figure and a legend he can learn from. The two have had their rocky relationship but for one to succeed, the other needs to succeed as well. Jace needs to learn discipline, and Isaac needs Jace to succeed so he can put his past behind him. While the two seemed to have made up at the end of season 1, there’s still plenty of bond left that will likely have its ups and downs. How does the two work together going forward for the advancement of the team and each other’s personal success?

Then, of course, there’s the supporting cast. So many of these characters shine through even in the shadow of the Jace/Icon drama. With everything that happened with Crystal, how will affect her going forward? Jace isn’t the only one who struggled with his relationship with his father. How will his strained relationship with his father help or hurt Phil? Fathers aren’t the only strained relationship either. Both Jace and Jackie went behind Jenna’s back to get in touch with their father and try and mend that relationship. They might have smoothed things over for now, but will there be any resentment going forward?

And that is just some of the stories that can be explored in season 2. With enough creativity, there are so many different angles Swagger can take with this amazing cast. They have each character’s story developed in a way that you feel a closeness and connection to each of them. No one is really background noise of a bigger picture. Yes, there is the central plot of Jace and his rise to fame, but the other characters aren’t just there for comic relief. You care about their story, how they fit into each other’s lives, and how they pick each other up. Apple needs to do the right thing and give Swagger at least a season 2.
