Playstation 5 vs Xbox Series X: Which Should You Buy?

Xbox Series X vs PlayStation 5

When it comes to next-generation consoles, unless you’re a hardcore fan of one or the other, trying to decide between getting a new Playstation or a new Xbox is a tough choice. Both have their merits and both have exclusive content but which one should you buy, or buy first.

First, it’s not easy getting your hands on either console right now. Whether there’s an issue manufacturing, too much demand from people being stuck indoors, or there a post-holiday rush of people who didn’t get their hands on one, it’s a challenge. You can download in-stock apps that will alert you to when the larger retailers have them in stock, but you have to be quick as everyone else on there is trying to get one as well.

When it comes to the consoles themselves, we can put you to sleep with the boring facts and statistics of how one runs compared to the other, but even playing them side by side, you’d find it hard to notice the difference. So how should you decide?

Well if you’re going on looks, neither has a pretty face. The Xbox Series X looks like they magnified an Amazon Echo and the PlayStation like they made a console sandwich. Aesthetically, neither of them is going to look like they fit well with the rest of the stuff on your entertainment center.

So which feels newer? If you want to feel like you’re operating a next-gen console, then your obvious choice is the PlayStation 5. The Xbox interface didn’t change at all from the One X to the Series X, but that was by design. The Series X by design was supposed to make it easier to navigate and feel familiar. PlayStation ups the ante a little with a newer interface, but still has a clean and polished familiarity.

When it comes to gaming, it’s still too early to pick based on current games. Since both are still in their initial cycle, none of the big exclusive titles are out yet. Microsoft made a deal to bring in Bethesda, but Sony has the God of War, Spider-man, and Final Fantasy titles. The race to market outpaced developer output for games. It will be a year or two before you’re seeing any “must-have” games.

So which is the rush to buy? What should you get first? Personally, for now, it comes down to how you prefer to game. Do you want a console that has good solo campaigns paired with the usual online content? Get a PlayStation 5. Do you prefer a good online community and multiplayer experience, get an Xbox Series X. Unless you’re a tech buff, the specs in a this vs that won’t show up anywhere else but on paper and shouldn’t be part of your decision.
