NCAA Men’s Basketball: Who’s the favorite to win March Madness?

March Madness

When you grab your college basketball bracket next week, ask yourself this question: Who’s the favorite to win that beloved March Madness tournament?

The answer doesn’t pop out right away, but when you take some time to research the teams in this Division I tourney one team that should stick out is North Carolina.

Out of all the teams in the tournament, the Tar Heels are the most consistent and they also have players with championship experience under Roy Williams.

UNC has won five straight games entering Friday and they are 1st in the ACC with a 26-5 record.

The Tar Heels have won eight of their last 11 games against ranked opponents and have six players who average eight or more points, including senior guard Cameron Johnson (16.8 PPG).

UNC isn’t known for its ability to knock down 3-pointers, but they have players who can make foul shots.

Looking at some of the big names on the bracket this year, Gonzaga hasn’t played many ranked opponents, but just lost to St. Mary’s in the WCC title game. I like their roster, but this program has been picked by many to play better during March Madness time, but have struggled to do so.

Virginia is another squad that has good defense on its side and plenty of scoring, but they need to prove that they can be more of a force in March Madness and not an underachiever.

Kentucky is a well-coached team and PJ Washington has been great, but this team only has 1 junior, two seniors and two sophomores. It’s hard to envision a very young team getting through these rough March waters and into the title game.

Duke is a very talented bunch, but with Zion Williamson just now coming back into the fold it may take time for him to catch up to the pace of the game.

The Blue Devils haven’t been playing their best basketball and are not a great 3-point shooting team (30.6) nor a successful foul shooting team (68.9).

Let the good times roll and enjoy the madness!
