Is Apple Getting Lazy With Their Products?

Apple Event

Apple was once the top of the line when it comes to designing new products in the tech world. However, it seems as of late they’ve abandoned everything that made it seem like they were ahead of the game for the same old packaging.

For instance, take the iPhone. Nothing has changed about the look of the phone in how many years? You have to go all the way back to the iPhone 7 to see any real changes in the look of their smartphone line. Even with rumors coming out that the camera notch on the back won’t stick out as much or the front camera notch “might be smaller” all that’s really changing is the size. Smaller SE phones larger Pro Max phones, Apple has hit a wall.

Then take something like the iPad. The only major change in the past few iterations is the bezels got smaller and the screen bigger. Sure, they’ve bounced back and forth between the rounded and squared display, but the product itself has become stale.

Does Apple feel like these small incremental changes are good enough to keep their flagship products afloat? Have they given up on their devices altogether in favor of subscription services?

Take their Apple Event from today, while they introduced new products, nothing was exactly “new”. Their Apple TV 4K changed nothing to actually improve the overall user experience when watching streamed shows. They changed the remote to allow easier navigation, but even that essentially was their first-gen remote with a little more functionality. It actually took a step back in terms of design.

Of course, there are the long-rumored AirTags. They couldn’t even keep the name a secret this time around. While the product itself has done enough to separate it from the competition. The biggest tragedy here is that they introduced a small device you can stick to your Apple TV remote, but didn’t actually integrate the already “Find My” into the Apple TV remote! The smaller-than-a-pack-of-gum easily can fall down your couch and at a push of a button, you could locate it. Apparently, Apple wants no part of a feature that would actually come in handy.

When it comes down to it, Apple doesn’t have to change a thing. Because they used to be a tech company that wows, everyone’s just bought into their history of success. It appears we’re a long way away from the tech giant not resting on their laurels. They might have a ton of great products worth buying, but they’re getting lazy.
